| Kawasaki GPz400R During the commission build of the Kawasaki Ninja 600R, I had acquired a couple of extra sprues to fix the bodywork, as well as a 'glue bomb'. I looked through the leftover pieces and realized I had enough parts to do a full kit and a cafe racer version. Looking on the internet for inspiration, I found a version of the motorcycle that had a limited release. The paint scheme was a very dark blue with fading stripes and this is my interpretation. I think this kit is a reboxed kit from another manufacturer, because the molding details don't strike me as Tamiya quality. This is the second time I have used the Tamiya clear pearl, which gives an in scale metal flake look, at least for 1:12 scale. I managed to get a photo of the effect on the gas tank Base Kit(s): Tamiya Kawasaki GPz400R (kit number 14045) Finished: Jun 2020 Modifications/Additions: - built pretty much out of the box - brake disk ventilation holes drilled out (all 150 of them!) - some photoetch pieces used for bodywork fasteners - aftermarket gauges (did not have an extra kit decal sheet) - custom license plate - engine cover paint is a mixture of Tamiya gloss aluminum lacquer and Gunze C526 dark blue - Bodywork paint is - Tamiya pure white, followed by clear blue for the fading - masked the stripes, then Gunze C526 dark blue, Tamiya clear pearl both airbrushed - Tamiya clear lacquer straight from the can, then, polished and waxed Click on Thumbnail to see detailed image.
