1974 'Team Canada' Brabham BT42
In 1974, Eppie Weitzes drove a Brabham BT42 in 'Team Canada' livery in the Formula One race at Mosport.  Eppie was born in
Holland and emigrated to Canada, eventually taking out Canadian citizenship.  He raced various vehicles in Canada and the US in
the 1960's and 1970's.  Arguably, the most recognized car he drove was this Brabham.  The car was sponsored somewhat by
Labbatt's brewing company and the only acknowledgement of that was the number '50' on the car, related to 'Labatt's 50' ale.

The had mechanical troubles and did not finish the race.  I had built the Brabham BT44B when it was first released in the 1970's.
However, the model definitely needed a face-lift, and what better way then to recreate an iconic Canadian race car.

A build article was published in Random Thoughts 37-1 (Spring 2015), the IPMS Canada publication - the article can be found

In 2017, Eppie Weitzes appeared at the VARAC event held at Mosport (Canadian Tire Motorsports Park) and was kind enough to
autograph the base of the model.  While I was waiting for Eppie to come over and sign the base of the model, I started talking with
his brother (I think) about the car.  He said that after the first few practice laps in the car, Eppie came back to the pits and said the
car seemed a bit loose.  They did some investigating and discovered that many of the bolts holding the engine to the frame - which
basically held the car together - had either sheared or stretched and the car was on the verge of breaking in two pieces.  Once
they got that sorted out, the car handled much better.

A a member of the Grand Valley Model Car Club scanned and sent an article about Eppie and the race team that was featured in
Canadian Motorsports magazine.  It can be found
