| Suzuki Katana Superbike This is the second model in a series of Canadian base racing motorcycle projects. This bike was ridden by Wes Cooley at Daytona and later by Art Robbins in the Superbike races in Canada. The bike is currently part of the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum. Many thanks to Bar Hodgson for giving me access to the bike to photograph and measure. I have also included some additional detailed descriptions and pictures in the build notes. Build Notes (900kb PDF) Base Kit(s): Tamiya 1/12 scale 14065 Suzuki GSX1100S Katana Custom Tuned Finished: September 2006 Modifications: Scratchbuilt - front brake calipers from styrene - steering damper from solder and styrene rod - tachometer mounting from pop can aluminum - left side engine cover from sheet styrene - both footpegs, rear brake lever and gear change lever from styrene sheet and rod - muffler from aluminum tubing - rear swing arm from styrene - flared aluminum tube added to carbs - clutch cable arm and mounting bracket from styrene Modified - front fender and shocks changed to incorporate brace - front brake resevoir, handlebar grips, throttle mechanism all added - parts box carbs had top cut off, new parts and detailing added - removed starter motor, remounted turned upside down and blended in with engine case - chain cover had material removed and interior details added - top of engine block modified on both sides - new shock springs (two parts) made from wire - oil dipstick top added - front forks replaceed with polished aluminum rod Other - chain and gears were modified from a Yamaha YZR-M1 photoetch set and include rivets - exhaust springs added and engine mounting and joint under engine. - braided lines used for brake cables and oil cooler lines with RBMotion banjo joints on anti-dive lines - RB Motion rod ends for rear brake mechanism and gear shifter - Wheels and tires from Kawasaki 500 Endurance motorcycle kit Awards: MegaCity Madness, Toronto, Sept 2006, 1st place motorcycle Ajax XXVII, Ajax, ON, Oct 2006, 3rd place motorcycle SuperShow Motorcycle Contest, Toronto, Jan 2007, Class Champion, Katana Motorcycles Kingston Modelrama, Kingston, ON, Apr 2007, 1st place Miscellaneous category Click on Thumbnail to see detailed image.
