F-4 Phantom II jet The Guelph Plastic Modellers Groupt had a Phantom jet challenge build. The idea was to build a Phantom jet - any scale, markings, scratchbuilding, etc. and have it done by Dec 31, 2006. The results would be displayed at the WellCoME 11 contest in March 2007. The winner received a gift certificate from Future Shop (. . . but they don't sell models there!) SInce I am not much of an aircraft modeller (I only built them as a kid), I decided to have some fun with this. Canada never purchased this jet for the armed forces, I thought it would be neat to build a 'Phicticious Phantom' with Canadian markings. I liked the CF-5A retirement markings of Squadron 419 that JBOT decals had available, with a Canadian maple leaf on the underside. I was able to adopt them to fit on the Phantom. Some of the guys in the club were kind enough to give me a couple of pilot figures, as I wanted the plane to be displayed in flight. Base Kit(s): Tamiya 1:72 scale F-4 Phantom II (kit number 60713) Finished: July 2006 Modifications/Additions: - kit was built out of the box, with the landing gear in the up postition. - Squadron 419 retirement decals from JBOT decals adopted to fit. - wire was epoxied into body through hole near arrester hook and then attached to wooden base. - paint is Tamiya acrylics shot through my airbrush Click on Thumbnail to see detailed image.
