1983 San Marino Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) diorama
Kenny Roberts - Yamaha YZR500 (OW70)
Freddie Spencer - Honda NS500

The 1983 Motorcycle Grand Prix was one of the most hotly contested battles.  Reigning champion Kenny Roberts, riding a
Marlboro sponsored Yamaha YZR500 (OW70), raced all year against relative newcomer ‘Fast’ Freddie Spencer, on a V-3
powered Honda NS500.   They each had dominated the podium, splitting first place in the first 10 races.  The second last race of
the year, in Sweden, had a controversial ending when the two riders collided on the last lap.  Roberts ran off the track leaving
Spencer to sprint to the finish line and victory.  The season came down to the last race of the year, the San Marino Grand Prix
race at Imola, Italy.  Roberts won the race, which he needed to do.  However, Spencer placed second and garnered enough points
to win the championship and place Honda on top of the manufacturer’s title.

This diorama depicts the two champions as they prepare to push start their motorcycles at the beginning of the San Marino Grand
Prix.  The bikes were built pretty much out of the box, and are described in two other pages:
